‘Popular Embu gospel musician Regina Muthoni has passed away.
The renowned ‘Yesu ulishinda’ hitmaker passed away on the night of Thursday, 2nd October 2025.
Her death was confirmed by music director Ephantus Safari, who shared how devastated he was by the loss.
In a Facebook post, Ephantus reflected on Regina’s long career, noting that she had touched countless lives with her music and embodied the true definition of a singer who inspires generations after generation.
Ephantus described Regina as a true minister who used her singing to preach and who consistently radiated hope in salvation.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of our legendary gospel musician Regina Muthoni, the voice behind the timeless song ‘Yesu Ulishinda.’ Mama Regina’s music has touched countless lives and her legacy of faith will continue to inspire generations to come. We celebrate her life, her ministry through music, and the hope she carried in Christ,”wrote.
He further prayed for her soul, asking God to grant her peaceful rest in eternity, and offered comforting words to her family during this difficult time.
“Our deepest condolences to her family, friends, fans, and the music community at large. May her soul rest in eternal peace. It is well!,” he wrote.
How Was Regina’s Death Discovered?
A lady who was a close friend of Regina, and who discovered her lifeless body shared their last interactions.
“I saw her on Tuesday and we had a long conversation. She advised me about marriage,” she said.
According to the lady, Muthoni then instructed her to bring her something on Thursday, and that is when she found her body.
“Since she could not get up, I would just open the door. I got in and found her sleeping. I touched her body and found that she was cold,” she narrated.
Other Artists Mourns
Following the news, Mugithi singer Waithaka Wa Jane also posted, confirming that he had heard of Regina’s passing. He shared a photo from her past and prayed for her peaceful rest.
“Rest in peace, Regina Muthoni,” he wrote.
The news was further confirmed by Kikuyu media personality Paxson Chege Ngunya, who said he was on his way to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital where Muthoni’s body had been taken.
Chege noted that Regina had died at her home in Githurai 44.
“Sad news, gospel singer Regina Muthoni has gone to be with the Lord. She died while at her home in Githurai 44. Regina is the one who sang the popular hit ‘Yesu Ulishinda,’” he wrote.
In another post, Chege confirmed that he had arrived at the referral hospital and shared that singer Ngaruiya Junior had also come to mourn with the family.
“It’s midnight and I have arrived here at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, where the body of gospel singer Regina Muthoni has been brought. Many artistes have arrived as well, including Ngaruiya Junior,” he wrote.
Singer Muthoni was, in 2023 honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Embu Music Awards, for her immense contribution and lasting impact on music.
