Married In Embu, Rejected For Singing: Secrets You Didn’t Know About Regina Muthoni

Gospel singer Regina Muthoni, who died on October 3, 2025 at Githurai 44 has left a big gap in the gospel industry, with musicians paying tributes to her for the role she played in her career.

A lady identified as Lucy, told the Media that she was probably the last person Regina interacted with beforeher demise. She disclosed that Muthoni had shared a lengthy piece of advice with her on marriage issues, and requested her to bring her “something.”

She said that, on bringing the said thing the following on Thursday, she found Muthoni unresponsive and her body was cold.

What Killed Regina Muthoni?

Singer Ngaruiya Junior disclosed that Regina had been struggling with cancer for a long time and it’s believed that the illness took her life.

Her body was later taken to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital Mortuary.

Muthoni’s family had recently been thrown into mourning of other kins; including her husband who died five months ago, and two other family members.

Regina’s Son Disappearance

, now an orphan revealed that his brother, Mr Jackson Murimi Mugo disappeared about five years ago.

According to Mwangi, Murimi was lastly seen by his mother at Gikomba, Nairobi.

The family has requested people of goodwill to help trace the son, if possible before burial of Muthoni.

But Who Is Regina Muthoni?

Singer Regina Muthoni was born in Kabare Village, Kirinyaga County, and studied in the said  County.

She was the fourth-born in a family of five.

How Muthoni’s Talent Was Discovered  

In an interview seven years ago, the singer revealed that, when she was young teenage, a woman who was a friend to her mother had predicted that she could be a singer, due to her singing abilities and her brilliance in creating songs.

She disclosed that she was from a humble background and even used to do casual work, including being a house help.

She said she once apon a time sold food at Kutus, Kirinyaga County.

She said she was inspired into singing by Mary Wambui and Pastor Karanja.

The Hit ‘Yesu Ulishinda’

Yesu Ulishinda was not Muthoni’s first song.

Muthoni disclosed that she started singing in 1998, and she had taken four years without a child, untill she decided to release her song ‘Tigai Kinyururi’ (Stop The Ridicule) which was well received in Embu and Meru.

The song ‘Yesu Ulishinda‘ made up Muthoni’s breakthrough in life as she was able to gain recognition countrywide and internationally.

She said she decided to release the song as a way to thank God for her physical appearance.

Marriage, Instability And Separation

The musical star was married in Kangara village, Kithimu ward, Embu county.

She revealed that she was the financial backbone of her family due to her musical income.

She said she opened a hardware business for her husband, Mr Mugo (now deceased), and would bring to the table at least Ksh. 20,000 a day.

However, the Husband’s Family members, she said, started fearing that she would seek extra marital affairs or disrespect her husband due to fame, and their relationship at that moment became shaky.

The husband told her to choose between singing and living with him, and she chose singing.

Until her demise, she was single and living alone in a rented house in Githurai 44.
