Kiambu Senator Karung’o Wa Thang’wa has lost his mother, Lucia Wangui who died at the age of 93.
According to the Senator, the mother had suffered from dementia for so long.
She was married to her late husband Stephen Kimani Thang’wa, a primary school teacher, and both bore and raised thirteen children.
Among them were; Karungo wa Thang’wa, Fr. Michael Thang’wa—a Catholic priest, Kihara wa Thang’wa—a global humanitarian, Wambui Thang’wa and Wanjiru Thang’wa who are both nurses and many oters.
According to reports, she developed breathing complications before her demise.
She was with her Son Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa and her caregivers in her final moments.
“It is well with my soul.Go well Mum.This afternoon we have lost our dear mother, Lucia Wangui Thang’wa, also known to many as Nyina wa Martin.For many years my mother battled dementia. I am not even sure she ever got to know that I was elected the Senator for Kiambu. But every time I saw her, sat with her, or spoke to her, I found strength to keep going.She may not have remembered many things in her final years, but to us she remained the strong matriarch who, together with our late father, raised thirteen children with love, sacrifice, and discipline.Rest well Mum.I remain your 13th,” Karungo posted.
Leaders Send Tributes
Various leaders, on learning the death of Kimani’s mother, poured in their messages of tributes.
“My heartfelt condolences go to Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, the entire Thang’wa family, relatives, and friends during this difficult time. May the soul of Mama Lucia rest in eternal peace and perpetual light shine upon her forever,” mourned Rigathi Gachagua.
“Pole sana my brother, Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa for the loss of your mum, Lucia Thangwa. May God grant you and your entire family strength, comfort, and courage during this difficult period of mourning.May the soul of Mama Lucia Thangwa rest in eternal peace,” wrote MP Kimani Ichung’wah.
