The youthful man who gained popularity after 2024 Gen Z protests, Mr Ezekiel Kyama, popularly known as ‘Mr Speaker sir’ has been arrested.

He came to limelight during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests after a viral moment inside Parliament.
Kyama gained nationwide attention after he was captured inside Parliament during the 2024 protests. In a widely shared video, he sat on the Speaker’s chair and declared: “Mr Speaker Sir, I am here to address you.”
After the deadly event, he immediately went into hiding, showing up later in 2026.
Why Was Kyama Arrested?
Kyama joined hundreds of young people who took to the streets to commemorate the anniversary of the 2024 protests that left at least 65 youths dead following confrontations with police.
The commemoration was held on Thursday, June 25, 2026 .
However, he yet again found himself on the other side of the law, two years later.
The demonstrations ended with his arrest alongside several other protesters.
The group was taken to Nairobi Central Police Station, where they were being held in custody.
In a video shared on his TikTok account, Kyama appeared inside a dimly lit police cell alongside other arrested youths.
Addressing his followers, he appealed for help after their arrest. “We are at Central Police Station. We have been arrested. We had come for the anniversary. There are so many of us here,” Kyama said.
Other detainees who appeared in the video joined him in calling on Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to come to their aid.
