High Court Bars Orders Seeking To Stop Nationwide Protests

The High Court of Kenya  has declined to allow orders seeking to stop the nationwide anti-government protests which are being led by Azimio Leader Raila Odinga.Meanwhile, Justice Hedwig Ongundi declined to issue orders to Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to arrest the protesters.

In the case, the lawyer representing former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko had argued that the demonstrations have caused alot of disruptions adding that businesses have been affected.

In giving its ruling, the court said that it can’t direct two senior officers who have the mandate to arrest, citing separation of powers.

“It would therefore not be proper for these courts to appear to be setting out new regulations and policies which is not within its docket,” court noted
