3 Dies In Accident Involving Concrete Mixer Truck, Two Other Vehicles

Police officers are investigating an instance where a heavy concrete mixer crushed down a personal car in Uganda, the accident involving three vehicles.

The fatal accident happened at Nkumba Traffìc Lights along Entebbe Road In Wakiso District.

According to a press statement issued by Uganda Police Force, the territorial police in Entebbe, today morning at around 8:30 Am, the fatal crash involved M/Vs UBQ 371P Mitsubishi RVR, UAN 836B a concrete mixer and UG 310006 T/Hilux.

“A preliminary report shows that the three said vehicles were in the same direction facing Entebbe from Kampala and while at Nkumba traffic lights waiting to be released by the lights, motor vehicle UAN 836B a concrete mixer from behind lost control & failed to brake, as the driver tried to dodge the vehicles in front of him hit a pavement on the side of the road and overturned falling onto m/v UBQ 371P killing instantly it’s driver one Okoit Raphael M/A 34 yrs of age, a lawyer working with MALDEF Advocates and a resident of Seeta. The same vehicle went ahead and damaged m/v UG 310006,” part of the statement reads.

The territorial traffic police responded to the scene immediately and retrieved the body of the driver who was taken to Mulago City mortuary for postmortem.

The motor vehicles which were involved were towed to Entebbe CPS pending inspection.

Police says that the driver of M/V UAN 836B has been detained as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, the family and friends of lecturer Raphael Okiot from the Uganda Christian University have taken to social media to mourn him after his horrific death.
