Several people lost their lives following a grisly accident as a trailer collided with a passenger vehicle in the Kipsitet area of Koguta, on the Londiani-Muhoroni Highway.
The driver of the trailer is said to have lost control before swerving off his lane to ram into the oncoming matatu driven towards Kisumu.
In a report, Police confirmed that 13 people died on the spot despite variations in the reports indicating the death toll.
The bodies, that of the Matatu driver included, were booked into the St Vincent Mission Hospital morgue ahead of identification. Three people -a child and two adults- survived the crash with critical injuries but of varied degrees and were admitted to the Muhoroni sub-county hospital.
Images shared from the scene depicted a nasty bloodbath that, possibly no one would survive in ordinary circumstances.
The body of the PSV was crashed and its formation dismantled, only fragments of the seats being the evidence that the wreckage was once a mover. It was towed to the Kipsitet Police Station.
However, the truck driver fleed the scene unhurt, immediately after the horrible accident. Police have quickly launched a manhunt for him.
