Kenyans woke up to traumatising news of a fire tragedy at Endarasha Academy where 16 pupils died on the spot and one succumbed while in hospital.
President William Ruto has asked the Ministry of Interior to launch investigations into the fire tragedy.
Ruto suggested that the fire broke out due to a supposed laxity on the side of the school.
The president ordered that whoever is found to have slept on the job be held to account.
He pledged government support to the affected families.
“I instruct relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate this horrific incident. Those responsible will be held to account. The Government under the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of the National Government is mobilising all the necessary resources to support the affected families. Poleni sana,” said the president in a statement sent on X.
