Former Chesumei MP Elijah Lagat was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment at Eldoret hospital following a short illness, early Tuesday.
Until his death, Lagat was a member of the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse Authority Board.

Elijah Kiptarbei Lagat was born on 19th June 1966 at Saniak, Nandi county, Kenya.

He was first elected into parliament in 2007 through ODM ticket representing Emgwen Constituency.
Later, Emgwen constituency was divided into two creating Chesumei Constituency which Lagat again in 2013 emerged the first elected legislator in the newly formed constituency, making his way to National aassemblyagain under Jubilee party.
Lagat’s Journey In Athletics
The legendary Law maker was the winner of the 104th running of the Boston Marathon held in 2000. He won in the closest finish in the race’s history when he edged out Gezahegne Abera of Ethiopia and fellow Kenyan and previous year’s champion, Moses Tanui.
Abera and Lagat were both clocked at 2 hours 9 minutes and 47 seconds while Tanui finished three seconds back.
Lagat’s win enabled the Kenyans to capture the individual men’s Boston Marathon title for the 10th straight year. This is a record that still stands.
