DCI Launches Manhunt For Suspects Linked To Burning Of Woman’s Vehicle In Githurai During Demos

Transport operations in the country were on Monday ground to a halt due to protests occasioned by the historic increase in fuel prices in the country, as recently announced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

Citizens full of anger took to the streets in several counties, demanding immediate intervention in the fuel prices.

The demonstrations saw a massive destruction of properties and loss of at least four lives.

One chilling event was the burning of a personal car at Thika road, where a luxurious vehicle belonging to Priscillah was set ablaze by demonstrators.

How Priscillah’s Car Was Burnt

The heartbroken lady narrated that having UDA campaign materials in the doomed car led to the incident.

Speaking to the media, Priscilla narrated that her husband was the one driving when he encountered the vicious protesters.

“My husband was free, and so I asked him to drive to Kamakis to buy some construction materials in Kamakis. We did not know that the protests would be this violent because they had been branded as peaceful demonstrations. However, when he arrived in Githurai, things went south after the protesters saw some UDA campaign materials in the car,” she said.

According to Priscilla, the protesters set the car on fire, with her husband narrowly escaping to safety.

“They were vexed by the UDA campaign materials, which belong to me because I am running for an MCA seat in the coming elections. They started by breaking the windows before setting the vehicle on fire,” she added.

The woman said her husband reported the matter to the Kasaranin Police Station, adding that they have not yet mustered the courage to go check on what was left of their vehicle.

“We hope to go tomorrow and see if there is anything that can be salvaged,” she said.
