A student in Kericho stirred controversy during a school event after using her podium time to publicly appreciate her husband, leaving fellow students, teachers and parents amazed.
As she was delivering her speech, she called the man forward, the couple embraced on stage as those in attendance erupted in cheers.
The youthful woman is reportedly married and is a mother of two children.
She had previously dropped out of school.
According to reports, her husband decided to sponsor her return to education despite their domestic responsibilities, and it is understood that she will sit her KCSE examinations later this year.
Her neighbour, Chelaa Marindany, moved quickly to clarify the circumstances after the video sparked speculation online.
“Mercy is married with two children; she went back to school and her husband is the one paying for her education. Congratulations, Cap Alex,” said Chelaa.
Another community member, Phili, added context, noting that a local leader had also helped support Mercy’s return to the classroom.
“She’s a mother of 2, from my village, no problem there; she was taken back to school by the Woman Representative in Kericho county, but she’s a happily married woman; she’ll be sitting KCSE this year,” wrote Phili.
