ODM Leader Oburu Oginga was spotted reading a newspaper, as news of his hospital admission ruled the Kenyan internet.
In a Facebook post, Alinur Mohamed wondered why media houses, led by The Nation gave the contradicting report.
Alinur said Oburu was in his office, reading the very newspaper from the very Media House which participated in spreading the rumours.
Reports had emergedthat the 83-year-old Siaya Senator had been admitted to hospital, with doctors and hospital management imposing tight restrictions on who may visit him.
The report claimed that Several members of parliament had reportedly been turned away after being told the veteran politician was not at the facility, and that the hospital management had limited access exclusively to his two spouses and his children.
A source familiar with the situation, who declined to disclose the precise cause of the hospitalisation, said the family is exploring the option of flying Oburu to the United Kingdom for specialised medical attention.
Reports indicate the senator was admitted following a bout of severe fatigue, with his doctors advising that he receive adequate rest. Oburu was first admitted on August 22 but was discharged four days later. He was readmitted on August 26 after his condition required further attention.
On Saturday, August 29, the senator attempted to leave the hospital to attend the funeral of his uncle, a former intelligence officer, in Alego Usonga, Siaya County. His doctors intervened and prevented him from making the trip.
The Nation reported that, a close relative had confirmed on Tuesday, September 1, that Oburu remained in hospital, that the politician is stabilising.
According to reports, on the Sunday, August 31 prior to that confirmation, he was taken outside to sunbathe for a few hours, the first time doctors had permitted him to do so since his readmission.
Oburu had been largely absent from public life in the period leading up to his hospitalisation.
Oburu Responds
After the rumours, Mr Oburu quickly engaged Kenyans in a response, sending a message of hope.
“Thank you for your concerns. I have read the nations digital news and wish to state that I am very well. I had only briefly visited the hospital for a general check up with my doctors and have since returned home. Being sick is a normal human experience and should not alarm anyone. The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person. Thanks for your concerns,” he posted.
