The ODM party leader Oburu Oginga has been noticeably absent from several key events, fueling speculation.
His whereabouts concerns first emerged two weeks ago, but intensified last weekend after he missed the widely publicised ODM retreat in Mombasa.
The retreat was attended by ODM governors, members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), and Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi, Hassan Joho, and Wycliffe Oparanya.
The last political event at which the Siaya senator was publicly seen was the party’s Youth League Convention in Nairobi on April 20.
Since then, he has missed several other party events, including a similar youth congress held in Kilifi on April 26.
His absence was also noted on April 27, when Mombasa governor and ODM deputy party leader Abdulswamad Nassir presided over the opening of Raila Odinga Hospital in Kongowea, Nyali, in his absence.
During the ODM retreat in Mombasa, an ODM official revealed the 82-year-old was on bedrest following the recommendation from his doctor.
The official disclosed Oburu was unwell but had recovered.
Suna East MP Junet Mohammed disclosed that he spoke to the party leader.
“He is okay. We plan to have a Central Committee meeting next week,” said Junet
