Armed police officers on Wednesday afternoon raided the home of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i in his Karen residence, Nairobi.
The security team which is said to have been drawn from various security units arrived at Matiang’i’s home in at least six vehicles and conducted a search operation.
Lawyer Danstan Omari who spoke to the press at the scene said that the police officers broke into the home and conducted a raid without a court order.
The lawyer also claimed that the officers carted away various materials after ransacking the home.
The raid came hours after the Court declined to grant the Directorate of Criminal Investigations orders to access CCTV footage of the former Cabinet Secretary’s Karen residence. The court released the denial earlier in the day.
In an application dated February 10, the DCI had asked the court to direct the manager of Amsec Security Services, which guards Dr Matiangi’s home, to hand over security footage for the period between 6 am, February 8 and 11 pm, February 9.
Raila Odinga arrived at the scene some minutes after the incident and rebuked the raid, alleging that the president is seemingly turning to dictatorship.
