KCSE Student Goes Missing, Another Drawns As Exam Kicks Off

A family in Kariobangi area, Nairobi is in distress following the disappearance of their son, Seth Ruben Okoth, who has been missing since last Saturday. As a result, his family appealed to him to return.

Okoth, who was a student at Our Lady of Fatima in Kariobangi, was last seen in Lucky Summer in Nairobi. It is not clear whether the student panicked in fear of KCSE before disappearing.

Elsewhere, a family in Machakos was left in mourning following the death of their son, Able Mwendwa, a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate at Katalembo Center.

Mwendwa drowned while swimming at a dam near the school while he was returning from school after  e was allegedly sent home for fees.However, his parents claimed that their son had been sent home for fees without any information from the management of the school.Angry parents, as a result, stormed the school to demand answers from the management after the incident, accusing the school of neglect.

‘’We have tried asking what happened but the teacher on duty refused to talk to me telling me that he was not allowed to speak,’’ revealed the mother.‘’My son called me and told me he had been sent home for fees by the principal and when I asked him why the school had not called me, he told me that he was not aware and that I had to call the principal to get the information,’’ the distraught mother added. ‘’We came to know what happened to our son because I was called yesterday at 3 pm by my sister. Before I could even reach here, I was asked to go to Montezuma Funeral Home,’’ one of the student’s kin added.According to eyewitnesses, the student decided to get into the dam to swim while going home from school before meeting his death.

‘’Immediately I arrived, I saw the man naked and I tried saving him. However, he was heavy and before I got hold of him, he drowned,’’ a good samaritan, who tried saving him, revealed.Police in Machakos are now investigating claims that the student was sent home to collect fees. However, the school principal has denied this.
