Wafula Wanyonyi Chebukati was a lawyer and a former chairman of the Independent Electoral And Boundaries Commission of Kenya, which is responsible for overseeing elections.
Chebukati was appointed to the position on a six-year tenure in January 2017 by the retired President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta.
Following his appointment in 2017, he succeeded Ahmed Isaack Hassan.
He retired on 17 January 2023 following the end of his term, after leading Kenya through the August, 2022 General Elections where Dr William Ruto was declared president elect. He has been critically in and out of hospital from 2024 until his death on February 21, 2025.
He ws born on 21 December 1961in Nanyuki, Kenya.
He studied Bachelor of Law at the University of Nairobi, post Graduate diploma at Kenya School of Law and Master of Business Administration at JKUAT.
