Ugandan Opposition leader Kizza Besigye was taken into Nakawa Courtroom on a wheelchair, where he was slapped with treason Charges and sent back to remand untill 7th March 2025.

Dr. Besigye, a four-time presidential candidate, along with Hajj Obeid Lutale and Captain Denis Oola, appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Nakawa, Friday, where they were formally charged with treason.

The court further denied Besigye’s request for private medical treatment, citing lack of jurisdiction, and ordered his remand at Luzira, pending further proceedings.

Besigye, however, called off his hunger strike, a decision confirmed by his lawyer, Erias Lukwago. According to Lukwago, the decision was made following Besigye’s formal appearance in civilian courts.

Besigye was later transferred to a prison bus under heavy security, following the court’s remand order.
