Member of Parliament for Githunguri, Gathoni Wamuchomba has reportedly been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
According to reports, MP Wamuchomba was on Saturday, April 5, morning summoned to appear at the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road.
Reports further indicated that the lawmaker was on her way there.
This comes hours after a viral video showed her marching with a crowd chanting “Ruto Must Go” in Githunguri on the evening of Friday, April 4.
While the motive for the summons was not officially revealed, the directive for her to appear before the DCI is seemingly tied to her alleged role in mobilizing the crowd.
Wamuchomba confirmed this through a statement on X, stating that she received a call from the County Criminal Investigation Officer.
“The CCIO Kiambu has, through a telephone call, summoned me because the great people of Githunguri refused to be lured by fake promises and projects that never materialized,” ishe stated.
“Arrest can be done, but it will not change the facts,” her further statement read.
On Sunday, March 30, Irungu Nyakera declared that he would be skipping President William Ruto’s highly anticipated Mount Kenya tour.Wamuchomba, a staunch ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, is one of those who had issued demands ahead of the President’s trip to the mountain.
In an open letter to the President on March 30, Wamuchomba urged the president to nullify the newly gazetted coffee levies, which, she noted, highly affected farmers in the central region.

“Dear Mr. President, as you prepare to visit the Central region, please note that we are uncomfortable with your latest proposed and gazetted levies on the coffee value chain,” Wamuchomba noted.
‘‘Your CS in charge of Treasury and Economic Planning gazetted a regulation introducing new levies on coffee sales without farmers’ consultations and clearance by the National Assembly. This was on February 7, 2025.”
The summon came just hours before President William Ruto visits Githunguri in Kiambu County, where he is set to conclude his 5-day tour of the Mt. Kenya region.
President Ruto began his extensive tour of the restive region on April 1, which is his first in six months following the impeachment of his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Already, the Head of State has toured the counties of Laikipia, Meru, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nithi, Embu and Nyeri over the past four days, where he has received a warm reception despite initial concerns.
In Kiambu County, Ruto is set to inspect the ongoing construction of the Mau Mau Roads at Nyanduma in Lari and assess the construction of cold rooms at various markets and the affordable housing projects in the county.
He will also inspect ongoing government projects such as the Githunguri County Integrated Industrial Park which is located in MP Wamuchomba’s backyard.
This means that Ruto’s tour of Kiambu County is of particular interest given that the lawmaker has been one of his critics. Gathoni, an ally of former DP Gachagua’s camp, has in recent times become a thorn in the government’s side, remaining critical of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
