Police Car Collides With Trailer Killing All Officers On Board

A number of police officers are feared to have lost their lives after their patrol car collided with a trailer at Matisi, along the Bungoma-Webuye Highway.

According to reports, the two vehicles collided, and the police car was completely damaged.

In videos and images sgared, a body thought to be that of a police officer can be seen covered with a white cloth on the ground, next to the wreck of the police car.

The police Land Cruiser is from the Bungoma Railway Police Station. However, it is unclear if all the officers on board were from the same station.

The details on how the accident happened remain scant, but witnesses say the officers died on the spot.

Some reports indicate that three police officers have been pulled from the wreck, but police have yet to confirm.

First responders, well-wishers and police have responded to the accident, and the rescue efforts are underway. 

Police have also collected the remains of the slain officers, with responders working to clear the road.

In one of the incidents, Corporal James Mutunga of the Northern Corridor Transit Patrol Unit was fatally struck by a speeding car while assisting in clearing a stalled Tuktuk near Thika.

The vehicle also injured three pedestrians before coming to a halt. The other occurred in Salgaa along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, when teenagers driving a vehicle owned by a police officer collided with a bus, resulting in their deaths.

Between January and March 2025, Kenya experienced a concerning number of road accidents, resulting in 1,139 fatalities, according to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
