Child Who Died 300 Years Ago Buried In Emotional Ceremony

A baby boy whose body was found under floorboards has finally been laid to rest – 300 years after he died.

The remains of the boy were discovered by builders during the renovation of a building in County Durham.

His skeleton was wrapped in newspaper dating from 1910, though testing revealed he probably lived between 1726 and 1812.

Mystery still surrounds how he passed away and how he was found under the floorboards of a Victorian property.

A moving funeral service was held for the child on Monday, with the coffin laid to rest alongside floral tributes which were laid by representatives of the police who are investigating his death, as well as members of the council.

One member of the public turned out for the funeral – 68-year-old retired social worker Janet Atkinson. “I just felt so sorry for him,” she said.

“I wanted to attend the funeral today to show my respects and show him some love, which he really didn’t have in his short life.”
