At least 10 students have lost their lives at Utumishi Academy Senior School in Gilgil, Nakuru county following a morning horror of fire.
The fire broke out at 2AM Thursday in a dormitory.
Rift Valley Regional police Commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed the incident, saying the cause of the accident had not been known.
Parents and neighbours arrived in the institution as early as 4AM but were denied entry.
The number of fatalities has been reported to have raised to16 after 6 more deaths emerged.
Police say 74 others are admitted with injuries
Survivors alleged that doors jammed during the incident, trapping some of the victims inside the dormitory.
