Popular sports journalist Diblo Kaberia is dead.
The sports commentator passed away on Sunday morning after a battle with illness. Longtime colleague and fellow commentator Fred Arocho confirmed his death.
“My brother and former workmate DIBLO KABERIA ELMAGO is dead. A sad day indeed.” Arocho noted.
El Mago, as he was popularly known among football circles, was sick for some time and needed surgery.
Kaberia was famous for his lively football commentary at Radio Jambo, one of Radio Africa’s pioneering stations. He worked with Arocho, Peter Kirumba, Yusuf Kaona and Diamond Okusimba, creating one of the most anticipated and followed sports shows in Kenya.
His nickname, El Mago, is a Spanish term that means ‘the magician’ or the ‘wizard’.
His colleagues, led by Fred Arocho, have mourned him as the Kenyan sports fraternity mourns the loss of one of its greatest voices.

Fans and fellow journalists reacted to the sad news.
Royal Media Services journalist Geoffrey Mwamburi said, “Sad to have received news that Radio Jambo Football Commentator Diblo Kaberia Elmago has passed on.”
Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohamed said, “It is with deep sorrow that we learn of the passing of Diblo Kaberia, a respected sports journalist, who was very passionate about his craft. His contributions to sports journalism will be remembered and missed. Sincere condolences to his family and the entire media fraternity, may his soul rest in peace.”
