The Africa Cup Of Nations defending champions Senegal were dragged home following a penalty shootout defeat to the tournament’s hosts Ivory Coast on Monday night.
The match had floated on a 1-1 draw in normal and extra-time before the alternative of penalties.
Frank Kassie who had also scored four minutes from the end of normal time, scored the winning spot-kick to clarify the entry of the hosts into quarter-finals.
It has however not been a straightforward AFCON for Ivory Coast as manager Jean-Louis Gasset was sacked after winning only one group game. The Elephants squeezed into the knockouts as the lowest-ranked team before appointing Emerse Fae to take charge of the rest of their tournament.
With a 100 per cent winning record in the group stage, Senegal appeared as many people’s favourite, but were however punished in an unbelievable manner.
