National Police Service (NPS) Spokesperson Resila Onyango has announced that the Nairobi Police officer captured in a viral video, collecting bribes from motorists has been suspended.
In the video, Police Constable Haron Mwangi of Buruburu Police Station, is seen collecting bribes from six matatus while directing traffic at B Centre area in Umoja.
However he was not concious that a whistleblower was recording the interactions.
“The Officer, No. 63151 PC Haron Mwangi, attached to Traffic within Buruburu Police Station has been suspended from Traffic Police Unit with immediate effect, and proceedings for his dismissal are ongoing,” Ms. Onyango said in a statement.
