The court has ruled that three suspects accused of assaulting a woman during the burial of her ex-husband in Nyamira will be remanded for seven days pending probe into the sad incidence.
In a viral video, a lady identified as Mellen Mogaka was assaulted over the weekend and forced to throw soil in her late husband’s grave, as a way to show loyalty and unending fidelity, according to traditions of the community.
This incident has been observed by Kenyans as an assult and Gender Based Violence against women.

Meanwhile, a Nyamira man suspected to be the one spotted in the video dragging the said woman from a tea farm during the burial has been urged to surrender to the police.
The victim, who was left traumatised, is expected to visit the police station in Nyamira to identify those who assaulted her.

Nakuru-based police officer Sammy Ondimu Ngare, who has been championing calls for justice for Mellen, shared the suspect’s pictures on his Facebook page, asking for leads to locate him as he was yet to be arrested.
The suspect in question was, in the viral video, spotted forcefully dragging Mellen from a tea plantation, trying to carry her against her will to her hubby’s grave as another man tried to pull her off the farm.
The suspect, according to the video, further ignored Mellen’s screams and cries as he continued to drag her before more men joined to abrasively deal with the mum who faced terror at their hands.
A Nyamira woman identified as Kerubo Onkundi alleged that the man in the video is Stephen Mogaka, who resides in Kebirigo.

The suspect was also spotted flogging the woman and forcing her to pour soil into her husband’s grave Kenyans are now calling for the speedy arrest of the man, as the country continues to grapple with alarming levels of gender-based violence.
