Veteran Reggae legendary singer Cocoa Tea, originally Known as Colvin George Scot died at the age of 65, on 11th March 2025.
His wife, Malvia Scott, confirmed that the veteran singer passed away at 4:46 Tuesday morning at a hospital in, Florida, following a cardiac arrest.
The reggae singer and songwriter was born at Rocky Point, Clarendon Parish, Jamaica.
Tea was popular in Jamaica from 1985, but became successful worldwide beginning in the 1990s.
One of his most famous songs is “Rikers Island”, which was later turned into a dancehall version by Nardo Ranks titled “Me No Like Rikers Island” (featured on the 1991 Columbia/SME Records compilation Dancehall Reggaespañol) which was released the same year as the original “Rikers Island”.

He also gained fame with the song “Young Lover”. He gained notoriety in March 2008 after releasing a song titled “Barack Obama” in support of the US presidential candidate by the same name.
He also made hits such as; Young Lover, Hurry Up and Come, Bruck Loose among many others.
He also initiated the annual New Year’s Eve events Dancehall Jam Jam in 2003, which It ran until 2009, with plans to resurrect it in 2015.
After recording for many of the top reggae labels including; VP Records, Greensleeves Records and Ras Records, before he started his own Roaring Lion label around 2000.
